During late 2023 we began analysing the published coverage by each of the mobile operators in the UK – EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three. This is the coverage information supplied by the operators to OFCOM. Going forward we will be tracking the growth of 4G and 5G coverage, as well as the reduction of 2G and 3G coverage as these are decommissioned, on a monthly basis.
Last Updated: November 2024
5G Coverage
94.15%
Population coverage (at least one operator).
Led by: EE (82.74%)
54.09%
Landmass Coverage (at least one operator).
Led by: EE (42.32%)
While currently led by EE, the combined Vodafone / Three entity would narrow the gap with EE on population coverage of 73.43%. Their combined landmass coverage would only be 17.79% however showing how far EE have pushed into more sparsely populated areas with 5G.

4G Coverage
99.99%
Population coverage (at least one operator).
Led by: EE (99.95%)
97.98%
Landmass Coverage (at least one operator).
Led by: EE (95.27%)
The merging of Vodafone and Three would result in a combined population coverage of 99.97% and landmass coverage of 96.48%, thus beating all other operators on both metrics.

Monthly Coverage Analysis
Every month we will publish a downloadable spreadsheet showing the coverage for each operator. This will contain the percentage of indoor / outdoor coverage for each of the technologies as well as the same statistics per each country and each county of the UK. These will be published shortly after the start of each month.
